This is how the beginning of the project we built in 2014—over 12 years ago—sounds. Currently, the car’s track times might not be as impressive anymore, but the car itself helped transform a car-building garage (Mickey Garage) into the Racing Custom Parts company you know today. Therefore, we believe this car deserves its place in the projects section on our website (which is how we treat 911VRT.COM; the description was copied from the existing Mickey Garage website and translated into English).
Remember, this story took place in 2014 !!! We are aware that an 8.4 time isn’t incredibly amazing today, and it can all be achieved much easier with a single engine 🙂 Enjoy exploring this post, our little „museum exhibit”.

„A seemingly innocent Opel Calibra, but it has been our object of interest for a good dozen years. The entire Mickey Garage project was based on this car (funny?). Perhaps it is, but we like wiping those smiles off people’s faces 🙂 Nevertheless, let’s start from the beginning. An Opel Calibra 4×4 that we had been modifying for years. For years, we also had this thought in our heads: what if… what about two engines? Only at the beginning, there was a factory 2.0 turbo engine (for experts: C20LET), which is definitely a cult engine but has its weak and weaker points. After countless failures and resuscitations, we decided to change the engine capacity (and brand). The choice fell on the R32 (the younger brother of the VR6 engine from the VW group), and it turned out that what was impossible with the 2.0 is very simple with the new unit. So why not? What if… what about two engines? If one has 700 horsepower, then times two it will be… a lot of horsepower. And so the idea turned into… hmm, we can’t do it alone, so two companies were brutally and sneakily dragged into the project, namely Fmic Performance and Ecumaster (since we have the parts and electronics, we know how to build it). From words to deeds, half a year after the idea, the Calibra Tsunami was created. It was built in secret from 'the Internets’ because, as we know, 'the Internets’ know best. On April 1, 2014, the first photos saw the light of day. In June, the car entered its first competition, ready but constantly being modified. Successive records provided motivation for further modifications, and successive victories gave us the strength to repair minor or major faults. Thus, over four years, the car reached the top of both the Polish and European lists of the fastest cars, going from 9.9 seconds (on a 400-meter stretch) in the first competition to 8.4 seconds (on the same distance). The project became well-known in Poland and abroad, and we are invited to all kinds of minor and major automotive events.”

A short video featuring the Calibra Tsunami, created by AXE, with a guest voiceover by the well-known Polish rapper, Wojciech Sosnowski „Sokół”
And a slightly longer video created by the „Wheel with it” team, which has been one of the top videos on their channel for many years (after 8years its STILL 2nd!!!! – we wish to get some profits from this situation 😉
So, briefly, the story began when the decision was made to build the car and have it ready for the next season (from October to May), so we could drive it fast before the idea got old. Below is a gallery of the work on the car, where you can also see many components currently available at Racing Custom Parts that were created specifically for this project.

next years of modifications:

Of course, the history and the gallery above are not in chronological order; it is a collection of several years of work on the car. However, the goal is to preserve the history of how the RCP company was founded and got to where it is today.
Next is a gallery from various events (exhibitions/competitions) over several years, hence the different car body colors in the photos.

And the rest of the photos from the production of parts during the early days of Racing Custom Parts.

During the filming of an episode for the Polish TV station TVN Turbo, due to negligence by the track preparation crew, an accident occurred that damaged the car. Unfortunately, at the time, this turned out to be the end of the era of racing this vehicle. Yes, these things happen, but no one expected it to be the fault of some random TV show rather than during a record-breaking attempt. That’s just how it goes sometimes. Naturally, the TV network stated it wasn’t their problem because they weren’t the ones driving (we don’t send our regards).

Even though the bodywork was repaired quite quickly, the sponsors backed out, and the car is currently sitting in the garage. I’m also adding one more gallery unrelated to the accident, featuring the AXE – „what’s your magic” team and „WWiT” crew during the video shoot.

And finally, a few videos from our YouTube channel. There are many more event videos there, so feel free to dig through the history. Thank you for visiting this page, and we wish you nothing but success with your own projects (or maybe someone wants to resurrect this one?).
